6 Most Amazing Treasures Nobody Ever Found
November 5, 2008 by seoTo the Ark of the Covenant, and the Amber Room worth $ 142 million, to jewels and artifacts from Egyptian Pharaohs of amazing worth… Meet the 6 Most Amazing Treasures nobody ever found!
The Ark of the Covenant

The Ark of the Covenant is one of the treasures nobody ever found, and it was the most sacred thing on Earth for ancient Israelites. It was the Hebrew’s nation paramount object, which, according to the Bible, was designed by God. This chest was made of wood, overlaid with gold (inside and out), and surrounded by a gold border. On its cover there were two golden cherubs facing each other. The Ark and its contents were absolutely priceless. Along with the two stone tablets of the Ten Commandments, the Ark was considered a holy archive for sacred relics’ safekeeping.
In 607 B.C., Jerusalem – where the Ark was located-, was overthrown by the Babylonians. Seventy years after that, when the Israelites came back to rebuild the city, the Ark of the Covenant was not there anymore, and ever since, its whereabouts has been the subject of speculation.
One of the beliefs is that the Hebrews hid the Ark from the Babylonians; its possible hiding place range from Egypt to Ethiopia, and Judah. But… why was the Ark not recovered when the Israelites returned to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple, if the Ark was only hidden?
Other beliefs are that the Ark was destroyed by Babylonians, and that God removed the Ark by means of divine intervention.
The Amber Room

Those who saw the Amber Room described it as the eighth wonder of the world, and in history, is the most unique missing treasure. It was an 11-foot-square hall that had wall panels with several tons of amber and inlaid precious jewels in them, gold-leaf-edged mirrors, and four Florentine mosaics. The room was arranged in three tiers. It also had glass display cases that housed one of the most precious and ever-assembled Prussian and Russian artwork collection. The Amber Room was created for Prussia’s King Friedrich I, and today, this room would be worth more than $142 million.
In October 1941, the Nazis stormed formerly called St. Petersburg, which is now Leningrad, and they claimed the Ambar Room and put it on display in the Königsberg Castle. Unfortunately, when Königsberg surrendered in April 1945, the amazing treasure was gone. The Amber Room became one of the treasures nobody ever found again. Did the Soviets destroy their own treasure with bombs? Is it hidden in a lost subterranean bunker? Or was it destroyed when Königsberg Castle burned after the city surrendered? We may never know the answer, but luckily, there is a replica of the Amber Room in Catherine Palace.
Blackbeard’s Treasure

The famous pirate Blackbeard amassed an amazing wealth in only two years, and is one of the treasures nobody ever found! While the Spanish obtained all the gold and silver they could extract from Mexico and South America, Blackbeard waited patiently, and then robbed these ships loaded with treasures as they went back to Spain. Blackbeard developed the reputation of cruel and vicious opportunist. But in November 1718, a British Lieutenant decapitated the pirate and hung his head by the bowsprit of his ship. And so… what happened to the treasure Blackbeard had amassed? Well, Blackbeard admitted he had buried it, but he never said where! Since then, many treasure hunters have been trying to get their hands on it. The hidden treasure may be located in the following locations: the Caribbean Islands, Virginia’s Chesapeake Bay, and the caves of the Cayman Islands. So… good luck on your quest if you decide to become a treasure hunter as well!
Treasures of Lima

When in the XIX century Lima, Peru was on the edge of revolt, the viceroy decided to transport the city’s treasures to Mexico, only for safekeeping. The treasures we’re talking about here are jeweled stones, two life-size golden statues of Mary holding baby Jesus, and candlesticks. In all, the treasure was worth around $60 million.
Captain William Thompson, was in charge of transporting these treasures to Mexico, but the reckless viceroy ignored the tiny little fact that Thompson was a pirate, so precisely when these treasure-loaded ships were well out to sea, he killed the Peruvian guards and got rid of their bodies overboard.
Thompson then went to the Cocos Islands, in the Indian Ocean, where –allegedly- he and his men buried all the treasure, and afterwards they hid until the situation calmed down.
In the end he and the whole crew of the ship were caught and taken to trial for piracy. In order for he and one of his mates not to be killed, they agreed to lead the way to the treasure up to the Cocos Islands…somehow they managed to escape in the jungle, and ever since, nobody saw Thompson, his mate, or the treasure again! The treasures of Lima have not been found, and a recent theory states that it is buried on an unknown island in Central America. But in the meantime, it remains as one of the treasures nobody ever found!
Pharaohs’ Missing Treasure

Howard Carter found Tutankhamen’s tomb at the Valley of the Kings in Egypt during the 1920s, and it took him ten years to catalog all of the many jewels and other artifacts that were inside the burial chamber. But later in the 19th century, when other important pharaohs’ burial chambers were unearthed, they were all completely empty, so.. Where is all that wealth? This wasn’t the doing of some petty criminals.
Many scholars believe the treasures were taken by the priests who conducted reburials during the period of the Egyptian dynasties (425-343 B.C) since pharaohs were not against reusing the funeral treasury of their ancestors and this practice may have been official.
The focus of particular attention has been a ruler named Herihor, who was a high court official during the Ramses XI reign. After Ramses died, Herihor divided up the kingdom with his son-in-law, and he made himself the head of reburial proceedings of the Valley of the Kings, and with this he had plenty of opportunity to steal on a grand scale.
Herihor’s tomb has never been found. So many scholars believe that if, and when his tomb is found, all the missing treasures of several Egyptian pharaohs will be found as well! But up until now, this is another one of the treasures nobody ever found…
Montezuma’s Treasure

In July 1520, the Spanish killed thousands of people from the Aztec empire in Mexico, and mortally wounded its Emperor named Montezuma. Hernando Cortés and his warriors were besieged by Aztec warriors in Tenochtitlán city.
After an intense fighting that lasted for days, Cortés ordered to pack up the treasures of Montezuma – consisting on countless gold and silver ornaments, and also a huge array of jewels,- in order to escape, but the Spanish were trapped by Aztecs and all the vast and stolen treasures of Montezuma filled Lake Tezcuco along with Spanish dead bodies. The booty was thrown away since the terrified army was trying to save their lives.
Cortés, along with just a very few of his men made it, and went back for revenge to that same city, a year later. Tenochtitlán inhabitants knew they were going to be attacked, and so buried the remains of the city’s treasure all around, and in Lake Tezcuco.
Today, Montezuma’s Treasure is still one of the treasures nobody ever found, and not necessarily because nobody has been looking, but because it is buried under five centuries of mud and sludge! One of Mexico’s former presidents even dredged the lake and found nothing!
