Cycles for Wandering
Matt Roberts created the literal motion picture. The professor and program director of the Digital Arts Program at Stetson University in DeLand, Florida, outfitted a tandem bike with a webcam pointed at the ground, a Mac mini, a touch screen and a USB global-positioning-system device. Software written by Roberts uses direction, speed and longitude-latitude data taken from the GPS to manipulate the video captured from the minicam. Roberts recently debuted the tandem version of his project at Stetson’s art faculty exhibition in DeLand. A tricycle was used in previous incarnations, but riders tended to veer right, with one person driving into a tree -- ouch!
