13 Completely Insane Activities With Video Proof

June 20, 2008 by uphaa.blog

Feeling adventurous? Feeling wreckless? These are the sort of activities your bored-but-daring friends will egg you on to do and if everything goes to plan you’ll have the time of your life. Here are a few mental activities you might be tempted to try out next time you are away from the office and looking for an adrenalin rush. But if you do, know this, your travel insurance probably won’t cover it. Some of these activities are so extreme that should something go wrong and you did have coverage, it would be your next of kin doing it on your behalf!

Fly-by-Wire

A bizarre but exhilarating experience where you control a high-speed plane on a leash, at speeds of up to 170km/hr. From the sound of it, you’ll feel (and look) a bit like Evil Knievel, without the broken bones.

Tribal Style Bungee Jumping

This tribe in Vanuatu certainly have developed their own unique and incredibly dangerous way of asking for a blessing for the crop of yams. Attached by vines, the jumper dive from a 100ft tall tower and is actually supposed to graze the ground with his head. In the tribal cultue, the jumper is allowed to say anything he wants to whomever he wants before he jumps and his words won’t be held against him. This is one insane activity best left to the locals!

Caged Shark Diving

Watching video clips online is all fair and well, but would you get inside a cage to be dangled in the water as shark bait just inches away from jaws of death? If you had ever thought about trying a cage-assisted shark dive then this video will probably make you think again. They definitely didn’t pay to get that close!

Human Slingshot

These adventurous French guys came up with the hair-brain idea to setup a slingshot between two cranes capable of catapulting them 100’s of meters into the hair and parachuting back down. Just wait until you see this!

Canyon Swinging

Drop 109m from the platform where you’ll swing over the Shotover River. About 60m of the drop is free fall. Notice in the video how the professional staff casually chat to the jumper and then at the last moment pretend like there’s a problem as they drop away! You can choose to fall out backwards if you you want.

Jetboating

Not particularly suicidal but definitely thrilling, jetboating is a Kiwi invention.“An inboard engine sucks water into a tube in the bottom of the boat and an impeller driven by the engine blows it out of a nozzle at the stern in a high-speed stream. The boat is steered simply by directing the stream.”
I had never heard of jetboating before, but apparently it’s doable in almost every New Zealand river town of any size, most notably Queenstown, where a bracing trip down the Shotover river — the same one you can rappel down and swing across — gets you within inches of jagged rocks. Wear a rubber coat and plastic underpants for this one.

Sky Diving

There are lots of places around the world where you can go skydiving safely. Even though all first dives are tandems, I’d rather stay onboard the aircraft or just stay firmly earthbound. Check out this girl’s experience where the reserve had to be pulled.

Base Jumping in Wingsuits for Extreme Sport

Wingsuit flying is one of the most radical of extreme sports ‘catching wind,’ garnering recent and increasing popularity. The modus operandi that’s more like flying than falling varies, limited only by the imagination of the thrill seeker — some are base jumpers, others dive from planes or helicopters, and even from hot air balloons, while yet others take flight using snow skis. Some use parachutes for landing, others not.

Spearfishing

You’ll need lungs like a whale to stay under long enough to snag a decent fish when you go spearfishing. Add to the mix, those pesky sharks who are drawn to the scent of blood from far and wide.

Zip Lines

This zip Line in South Africa claims to be the world’s fastest, highest, longest and steepest zip line. Looks like a lot of fun.

Extreme Bungee Jumps

How about doing a bungee jump from the 61st floor of the Macau Tower, that’s a drop of 233 meters. Get an appreciation of the height in the picture of the Macau Tower.

100ft Bridge Jump

This is exactly the sort of fun which will end in tears and likely a trip to the ER with a plunctured ear drum. Mind you though, the two jumpers have quite a large female following!

Parabungee

Jumping off a bridge or Auckland’s 328-meter Sky Tower not high enough for you? Try parabungee, which looks like a normal tandem parasailing trip until you cut the harness linking you to the jumpmaster / parasail pilot. Here’s a video of someone doing a 1000-foot parabungee jump, and then cutting the bungee cord, essentially base-jumping from the end of his cord. Yeesh.
