Steampunk is the term given to a sub-genre of science fiction, and speculative fiction that became popular in the 1980s and 1990s. Steampunk is all about fictional works set in a time period where steam power is still widely used –Victorian era in Britain; or the Wild West in the United States- and where either science fiction or fantasy elements are prominent, and generally featuring futuristic technology that may include fictional machines, (such as the ones found in the works of Jules Verne or H. G. Wells) or real technology like the computer, but occurring at an earlier date. "What the past would look like if the future had happened sooner" is the slogan that could describe this term. link
