Dalton Ghetti carves sculptures out of the points of pencils, literally. These miniature masterpieces are a side project for the professional carpenter, who has been perfecting this art for the last 25 years.

Every sculpture takes anywhere between a few months to a few years, so anyone who has seen a completed work won’t be surprised to hear that a project will take a decade.

You can see more Dalton Ghetti’s work here.

Where some see junk, he sees raw material. Jose Duarte – a Paraguayan artist – builds works of art using scrap metal from Asuncion’s garbage heaps, recycling trash, discarded car parts and household goods to create his very own treasure. The items are then used to craft statues, models and even robots. link

Mysterious Giant Animals Appear Across the World

May 6, 2009 by
Filed under all, art, Lead Story, new

Since 1983, colourful giant animals have been spotted around the world. Some seem to emerge right out of the water, while others hang in the balance like some kind of animal laundry between close-knit buildings. Still others stand guard atop historic landmarks and downtown balconies while top predators revert to their basest instincts in a bid for survival.
These animals represent the art collective’s strong social and environmental ethic while bringing accessible contemporary art to the masses.
